I know that after all this time, I should be used to the Bush administration and their never ending lies. But at least they used to try and hide them. Now, they don’t care what they say. They just lie. (And yes, I used the word “lie” deliberately. There is no confusion, misunderstanding, or difference of opinion. This is a flat out lie.)

Discussing Iraq, this exchange took place this weekend with George Stephanopoulos and President Bush:

Stephanopoulos: James Baker says that he’s looking for something between “cut and run” and “stay the course.”

Bush: Well, hey, listen, we’ve never been “stay the course,” George. We have been “we will complete the mission, we will do our job, and help achieve the goal, but we re constantly adjusting to tactics. Constantly.”

We can debate political opinions and strategies, and we can talk about the benefits and consequences of decisions. But what we should not do is let our political leaders tell us bold-faced lies and get away with it.
